Kamal BookwalaChief of Staff
Works directly with the AGS President, overseeing all AGS business, including attending meetings with administrators and members of the UCI community. Works with VP Admin to improve institutional knowledge and workflow between all staff.
Fabián Cruz-RuizLegislative Director
Works with the Vice President of External Affairs on local, system-wide, and national student advocacy and policy implementation strategies as well as voter registration and participation drives. Helps coordinate lobbying events with policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels.
Héctor GuevarahLegislative Analyst
Supplements the Legislative Director, working on tasks for the Vice President of External Affairs and the External Committee to maximize effective advocacy efforts.
Sedat OrhanCampus Organizations Liaison
Liaises with the UC Academic Student Employees, UC Postdocs and Academic Researchers, and other workers in UAW 4811, to improve coordination between AGS and labor unions representing its constituents.
Sakshi KamalCampus Communications Director
Manages the AGS communications strategy, including marketing and student outreach. Reinforces gateways for all graduate students to participate in the Student Government. Promotes AGS events and programming. Manages the AGS social media accounts.
Xin ZuoFinancial Coordinator
Assists the Vice President of Financial Affairs in both codifying new UCI finance policies within AGS processes as well as training other AGS staff on UCI policies.
Katie LordSocial Programming Coordinator
Is responsible for managing monthly pub nights, which includes coordinating with the pub to ensure there is adequate staff and desired hours. They will also help plan and host trivia and karaoke events during pub nights.
Xin ZuoSocial Programming Coordinator
Manages the social events that are not pub nights. This includes planning, coordinating and picking up food and beverage, advertising, and other related tasks.
Christine Dianne GuiyangcoBasic Needs Coordinator
Assess the basic needs challenges facing graduate students and advocate for policy solutions to secure basic needs, and liaise with the Fresh Needs Hub and community partners to expand and promote basic needs resources including food security, mental health etc. The Basic Needs coordinator will also work closely with the President and VPs on housing issues including policy concerns and casework.
Christopher IhinegbuInternational Engagement Chair
Identifies and assesses the needs and desires of international graduate students, Designs and coordinates events of a social, professional development, or networking nature, coordinates with the clubs and resources on campus, and advocates for international student needs and concerns both on and off-campus. Works with AGS staff and Council Members to push for policy change related to international student needs. Communicates with service providers present on campus about international students. Creates a gateway for international student participation in the Student Government. Works collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events.
Chely Garfio Family Engagement Chair
Identifies and assesses the needs and desires of graduate students with families. Designs and coordinates events or initiatives of a social, professional development, or networking nature, and coordinates with clubs and resources on campus. Collaborates with Student Housing and other offices in service of students with families. Advocates for students with families’ needs and concerns both on- and off-campus including working with AGS staff and council members to push for policy change related to family needs. Creates a gateway for students and their families to participate in the Student Government. Works collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events.
Kelsey Weymouth-LittleLGBTQ+ Engagement Chair
Identifies and assesses the needs and desires of LGBTQ+ graduate students. Designs and coordinates events or initiatives of a social, professional development, or networking nature, and coordinates with clubs and resources on campus. Collaborates with UCI’s LGBTRC, service providers, and student organizations on campus to better serve LGBTQ+ graduate students. Advocates for LGBTQ+ graduate students’ needs and concerns both on and off-campus including working with AGS staff and council members to push for policy change related to LGBTQ+ graduate student needs. Creates a gateway for LGBTQ+ graduate student participation in the Student Government. Works collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events.
Mariana Lizeth GomezUndocumented Student Engagement Chair
Works to better understand the needs of undocumented graduate students at UCI. Works to expand the resources and programs aimed at empowering the undocumented graduate student population. Collaborates with the DREAM Center and other offices in service of undocumented graduate students. Advocates for undocumented graduate students’ needs and concerns both on- and off-campus, including working with AGS staff and council members to push for policy change related to undocumented student needs. Creates a gateway for undocumented students and undocu-allies to participate in the Student Government. Works collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events. Works with the Vice President of External Affairs to expand legal protections and legislative goals for undocumented students.
Viviana Alvarez RodriguezFirst-Generation Student Engagement Chair
Develops strategies to better connect first generation graduate students with student success resources. Identifies resource gaps and designs advocacy solutions for getting first generation students the resources they need to thrive. Collaborates with the First-Gen Faculty Initiative and other offices in service of first generation graduate students. Advocates for first generation graduate students’ needs and concerns both on- and off-campus, including working with AGS staff and council members to push for policy change related to first generation students. Creates a gateway for first gen students to participate in the Student Government. Work s collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events.
Harika PulipelliDisability Inclusion Coordinator
Identifies the varying needs of disabled graduate students. Conceives of policies and programmatic goals to ensure student equity both within AGS as well as across the university. Designs and coordinates events or initiatives of a social, professional development, or networking nature and coordinate with the clubs and resources on campus. Collaborates with UCI’s Disability Services Center, service providers, and student organizations on campus to better serve disabled graduate students. Advocates for disabled graduate students’ needs and concerns both on and off-campus, including working with AGS staff and council members to push for policy change related to disabled graduate student needs. Creates a gateway for disabled graduate student participation in the Student Government. Works collaboratively with other Internal Team staff members on priorities, initiatives, and events.
